Ultra-fast Moisture Absorbing/Desorbing Materials

$15,000 USD

Challenge overview

The Seeker is searching for materials that physically change when they absorb/desorb moisture. The rate of absorb/desorb should be about the same, very fast and the change should be reversible.

This Theoretical Challenge requires only a written proposal.

Many materials absorb moisture and show a change upon doing so. Very few, however, both absorb and desorb at similar relatively fast rates. The changes also tend to not be reversible as well. The Seeker, taking inspiration from a recent paper, would like to find materials that absorb/desorb moisture at fast rates and physically changes when doing so. Changes must be physical in nature (expanding, shrinking, coiling, etc.) and reversible.

This is a Theoretical Challenge that requires only a written proposal to be submitted. The Challenge award will be contingent upon theoretical evaluation of the proposal by the Seeker.

To receive an award, the Solvers will have to transfer to the Seeker their exclusive Intellectual Property (IP) rights to the solution. However, the Seeker will be willing to consider a licensing agreement for a partial award if exclusive IP cannot be transferred by the Solver.

Submissions to this Challenge must be received by 11:59 PM (US Eastern Time) on May 30, 2016

Late submissions will not be considered.
