Challenge overview

NASA, in partnership with the Houston Cinema Arts Society, announces the premier of CineSpace: NASA Imagery – Your Vision.   In CineSpace, participants are invited to create their own cinematic vision, inspired by and using actual NASA footage.

NASA has opened archives of current and historic NASA imagery of a variety of NASA programms.  Participants will search through NASA archives to find what inspires them, download the imagery and create their short work. Those works will be submitted to the CineSpace competition, to compete for cash awards totaling $26,000 and the opportunity to be shown to audiences at the Houston Cinema Arts Festival (HCAF), at film festivals around the world, in space, and at other venues.  Submissions can be any topic, fiction or non-fiction; up to 15 minutes in length; a minimum 10% of submission is NASA imagery; filmmakers are free to select the subject and imagery of their choice; use of NASA footage is per existing NASA guidelines for imagery use.

Begin work on your submission now! NASA archives are now open for downloading here. Entries can be uploaded here between June 1 and July 31, 2015. Finalists and winners will be selected by September 2015. Winners and awards will be presented at the HCAF and at the SpaceCom Conference in November 2015 in Houston.

More information on the mission of CineSpace, competition guidelines, links to NASA imagery, and the submission process can be found at cinespace15.org. The full Submitter Agreement can be found here.
